Can we hear the words of wisdom

Can we hear the words of wisdom?   There are those that I consider to be very wise and I admire their vision, compassion and truth.    Their words hold a truth to me that I hope will continue to resonate with as many that are willing to hear the words and consider how in their own light can make a difference.   We can and we should.    I hope if you can,  take a moment to listen to the words of Martin Luther King, Jr and the videos below.

Martin Luther King, Jr., “What is Your Life’s Blueprint?”

I wanted to also include a poem that Mr. King references in his speech.  I enjoy the poems of Langston Hughes and although the reference is to a son in the poem, I think the words will resonate with daughters as well.  Life can be challenging, but we must take time to provide wisdom to the youth and to one another while also taking the time to listen.

Mother to Son

Well, son, I’ll tell you:

Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair.

It’s had tacks in it,

And splinters,

And boards torn up,

And places with no carpet on the floor—

But all the time

I’se been a-climbin’ on,

And reachin’ landin’s,

And turnin’ corners,

And sometimes goin’ in the dark

Where there ain’t been no light.

So, boy, don’t you turn back.

Don’t you set down on the steps

‘Cause you finds it’s kinder hard.

Don’t you fall now—

For I’se still goin’, honey,

I’se still climbin’,

And life for me ain’t been no crystal stair.
